Dr Williams obtained his BSc degree from the University of London with honours in both Physics and Biology and his PhD in Biochemistry from the National Institute for Medical Research, London. He then moved to Edinburgh in Scotland to start his work on genetics, first with the University of Edinburgh before moving into the field of agricultural at the Roslin Institute, where he was Head of the Bovine Genomics Section, and Coordinator of the Institute Genetics Programme. He moved to the Parco Tecnologico Padano in 2005 where he is now the Science Director.
Dr Williams’ research has focussed on the genetic improvement of animals, and he has been coordinator of 6 European Union projects on topics such as meat quality, dairy production, cattle health, BSE and basic genetics/genomics research. He works with over 50 partners from European counties and many other countries worldwide including Kenya, Canada, USA, Brazil, Australia, Israel and China. As Science Director at the Parco Tecnologico Padano Dr Williams is responsible for overseeing the institute’s research programme on Animals and Plants which uses the latest genomic advances to address improved food supply, animal productivity, food quality, health and environmental sustainability.

In the present assignment as Director, Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes of the ICAR, I have been engaged in planning and implementing investigations in different areas of buffalo development, extension and research aspects. The research is aimed at optimizing buffalo productivity, nutrient utilization, reproductive efficiency and enhance propagation of elite germplasm. Also worked as Head, Division of Buffalo Physiology and Reproduction for 10 years.
